Free speech now has a partner, the music of freedom: tones freed from the constraints of musical demagoguery, and scores allowed to express awareness so that it can now assume its role in the endeavor of freeing art from the layers of human cloaks that cloud the true meaning assigned it by the creative mind that authored it. Andrei has set music free by removing the political layers from music as an art-form. He has set music free by focusing on its own meaning rather than applying meaning to music through a particular type of performance. He releases music from a prison of proprietary performance or style, and lets it speak freely, allowing its own awareness to flow from its tones encoded by the composer, to the listener. He is the first to apply what I would call “Originalism” to the playing of music. Bach is a perfect example, where the encoded formulas that are his motivations, his purpose that make us aware it is uniquely Bach rather that say some other master, like Liszt. Completely different personalities and mindsets created the music, and that creative spark is what Andrei speaks. This is his unique contribution. Allowing the listener to be an active participant in the awareness, by decoding the scores so masterfully that hearing becomes believing rather than what some pre-established beliefs driving or affecting what is being heard. Andrei does not apply pre-ordained affects to speak the music, rather he lets the encoded affects in the music to freely speak. In a world where we are told that the quality of a truth is relative to its conformity with some political agenda, such independence is a declaration of freedom. Now everyone in America should understand the import of such an idea - freedom of the composer to speak. It is now in Andrei’s hands.
